Measuring Culture using Friction Analysis

Recently I attended the Business Agility Europe conference. One of the best questions raised, so far, was “how do you measure culture?”

Great question. And we have the answer!

This picture shows that it’s an inverse relationship between Flow Maturity and Friction. The higher the friction, the lower the maturity. The lower the maturity, the lower the expected ROI (Return on Investment) will be.

This is one the the primary reasons that I believe that traditional / waterfall has such a dismal success rate (somewhere between 14% to 26%, depending on which study you cite). Traditional methods tend to create too much friction (individual, team, product and organizational) due to micromanagement, command-and-control, bureaucracy, politics and silos.

Simple is not easy!

As with everything else that we train, coach and mentor in the Flow Leadership Framework and Mindset, it takes some personal time & effort to start using these powerful templates -and- you will get out of it what you put into it.
