Voices of Flow #15

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Today’s video features Andrew Henwood, FCP, FCT, AHF, SA, who is one of our Flow Certified Trainers. He is teaching-back Tile 10 for us (Politics and Stakeholder Management).

My observation is that politics tends to be a blood sport. Many people miss this vital point.

If you are in it to win it, then you need to understand that not everyone will like you. And, that they may be actively working against your best interests (not to mention those of your team, product and/or organization).

It’s important to get a picture of whether or not people are for your project. It’s even more important to find out whether or not people are for you. The way we do Stakeholder Management in the Flow Leadership Framework and Mindset is rather unique (so far, I haven’t see anyone else doing the stakeholder mapping the way we do it):

The two pictures above are done twice:

  • The first two are in relationship to yourself (do the stakeholders like you, personally?)
  • The other two are in relationship to the Product, Service and/or Result that you are trying to deliver (do the stakeholders like the Product, Service and/or Result?)

So you end up with four views of your environment. If you are in the situation where you need to heal a team, department or even an entire organization, a more in-depth article on that topic is here. Stakeholders have the power to make or break whatever it is that you are trying to achieve.

Understanding how to successfully manage your stakeholder relationships and the ensuing politics is your next step in applying Flow Leadership to achieve the results you want to deliver and that your organization so desperately needs.

So don’t delay – let’s chat!

__________

For those that are not familiar with the Flow Leadership Framework & Mindset, it is what’s next for businesses and organizations that are ready to succeed regardless of the methods, frameworks or management tools that they use throughout their enterprise. Flow is methodology agnostic.

Are you ‘in the zone’ of optimal performance right now as a person, team or enterprise? Did you get there by accident or by focused intentional acts?

“Flow” gives you the way of working and mindset needed to create and maintain an optimal state of high performance as an individual, team or organization.

The Flow Leadership Framework turbocharges everything you do, including “business agile” leadership and Scaled Agile.
