Let’s start with the Definition of Leadership from Oxford:
The image above is a pretty good definition of Leadership … it’s both personal power (leading teams) and positional power (the position of being a leader in the hierarchy). Again, it’s a both/and and not an either/or. Both are necessary to understand leadership.
There are many schools of thought on Leadership.
One of the ones that I like (and that best aligns with what we teach in the Flow Leadership Framework) is Level 5 Leadership as taught by Jim Collins in his book “Good to Great.”
Here is an updated version of Jim’s ideas using Servant Leadership as the main theme:
This image is a Leadership-Focused view and Servant Leadershipis integrated intoeach level from theTeam-level up to theExecutive Level.
Leadership is essential for each level to achieve a sustainable state of Flow:
Collin’s Five Levels of Leadership maps directly to the Individual, Team, Product and Organizational lenses that we use in Flow for all 18 areas that you need to lead in order to achieve Flow Leadership. I have both L4 and L5 in the organizational box since an effective L4 can still lead an organization. It’s much more motivating and inspiring to work with an L5.
Great Leadership is all about continuously Delivering great and sustainable VALUE.

For those that are not familiar with the Flow Leadership Framework, it is what’s next for businesses and organizations that are ready to succeed regardless of the methods, frameworks or management tools that they use throughout their enterprise.
Are you ‘in the zone’ of optimal performance right now as a person, team or enterprise? Did you get there by accident or by focused intentional acts?
“Flow” gives you the tools and practices needed to create and maintain an optimal state of high performance as an individual, team or organization.
The Flow Leadership Framework turbocharges “business agile” leadership.
